Hunan Deli Korean & Chinese Restaurant is a no-frills, full-service spot tucked into the Lorton Telegraph Square shopping area that serves up distinct Korean and Chinese dishes without blending the two cuisines. It’s the kind of place where the local Korean community clearly feels at home, and where people who crave authentic flavors come with some expectations about quality and tradition rather than just casual dining.

The interior is modest and functional, with a bustling vibe that hints at steady neighborhood traffic rather than tourist buzz. Expect fluorescent lighting and a compact dining room that fills up quickly during peak meal times, which speaks to the loyal regulars and their appreciation for the food here.

The menu is broad without being unfocused, splitting neatly between Korean classics and crowd-pleasing Chinese dishes. Korean favorites like Galbi Dolsot Bibimbap and Kimchi Jjigae sit alongside Chinese staples like Shrimp Tang Su Yuk and Seafood Jaengban JJA Jang. Each dish seems to respect its culinary roots — Korean dishes stay true to authentic tastes, something that locals specifically appreciate, while the Chinese offerings maintain their characteristic flavors without drifting into Americanized versions.

Particularly notable are the Korean squid dishes and options like Dongtae Tang and Budae Jjigae, which are seldom seen on many American menus but here are executed reliably, appealing to diners looking for the familiar comforts of homemade Korean cooking. Large portions come standard, which fits well for groups or anyone arriving extra hungry.

The staff interaction adds to the overall experience, feeling more like a meal with someone who knows the cuisine well rather than a formal restaurant encounter. For locals who remember the challenge of finding Korean food outside of core areas like Annandale, Hunan Deli offers a distinct alternative that manages both Korean and Chinese menus without mixing them up, which is a subtle but important detail for anyone who cares about authenticity.

This place works best for those who have a good appetite and a taste for genuine Korean or Chinese dishes — especially people who want to avoid the flashy or overly trendy spots but still desire well-executed traditional plates. It’s a practical choice for weekday dinners or casual weekend meals, especially once word has spread around the neighborhood. Visiting early evening might avoid the slight wait, but if there’s a line you know the kitchen is doing something right.

Hunan Deli has three different types of food cuisine: Chinese, American Chinese, and Korean. Besides this unique quality, they have four different Korean squid dishes to try on their menu. I wanted to try a Korean squid dishes I had a long time ago yet I ordered the wrong one. I ordered Ojingeo Deopbap – 오징어 덮밥 , marinated squid with cabbage & rice instead of Ojingeo bokkeum (오징어 볶음) a spicy stir-fried squid dish. It was still very good to eat but not the dish I preferred more. My takeout came with side dishes to sample also known as Banchan 반찬 and miso soup. I loved that they added these side dishes and the white rice with my entree was good. Prices were fair. Service was friendly despite some difficulty in communication. The ambiance was simple and seemed like a takeout place more than a restaurant. I definitely want to try more entrees there in the future.

Used to drive to Annandale to have Korean foods, but we found Hunan Deli restaurant which a a local restaurant but their foods are way better than those in Annandale. If you order a Chinese dishes, they are Chinese taste. If you order Korean dishes, they are Korean dishes. How amazing they handle both Korean and Chinese that are not mixed up. It is amazing. And when I saw many Korean people come here for dinner, I knew I came to the right place. The owners and servers were friendly, Korean friendliness. They made me feel like I was in a restaurant in South Korea. Last but not least, the prices were way cheaper than in Annandale while the portion was the same. This restaurant is one of my favorite spots now.

Wow, food here is authentic, Korean food for Koreans. I actually had reservations about coming because the name started with Hunan Deli and it seemed like their menu was too broad but everything we ordered was solid and authentic. We ordered dishes that are popular in Korea but we never get to see on most Korean restaurant menus in the US like Dongtae Tang and BudaeJjugae and they were both good. We also saw Chinese Korean dishes ordered by tables nearby and they looked great too. In general, it’s hard to find a good Korean restaurant that does good soups and stews (or anything besides AYCE BBQ) and this one is a solid hit.

You don’t plan your best meals. They happen when you’re hungry, tired, and stumble into some place with fogged-up windows and a small crowd that clearly knows better than Yelp. That’s how I ended up at Hunan Deli — a fluorescent-lit joint promising Korean Chinese comfort food. And man, did it deliver.First clue: there was a wait. Always a good sign. The tiny dining room buzzed with a mix of Koreans and locals — people who looked like they knew exactly what they were here for. The service? Chaotic. Staff flying between tables, orders shouted across the room. Plates came when they came. But that’s how you know this isn’t a place concerned with hospitality theater. Here, the food is the show. The noodles arrived steaming and chewy — the kind of texture that tells you someone actually cares about the dough. The sweet and sour pork was crisp perfection, lacquered in a sauce that walked that thin line between tangy and sweet without losing itself. The jjajangmyeon? Earthy, satisfying, not cloying. And the seafood soup — an angry red swirl of spice and shellfish — came loaded like a fisherman’s breakfast after a hard night. This isn’t fine dining. It’s the kind of place that exists because somebody’s mom and dad believed good food was enough to keep the lights on. And they’re right. Hunan Deli doesn’t need polish — it’s got soul.

Glad we came here for some Korean food, delicious, and the staff very friendly. Miss having some homemade Korean food. And they serve very large portions for the price, go hungry!

If you love Korean food and Chinese food, then you come to the right place. This is a small hole in the wall restaurant that serves excellent food. It reminded me of the little side restaurants in Korea where you can get a good home cooked meal. After leaving Korea, part of this dining experience left me as well. Finding a great authentic restaurant like this in the Ft Belvoir area is not easy to come by. The place is small with limited seating, so check before coming by. The food was outstanding, and we will be back for more.

I don't usually write reviews but I must say despite being a bit unassuming at first glance, this is one of the best meals I have had since moving to the DMV area almost a year ago. Absolutely delicious bulgogi and sides, and a good value at that. It's a bit of a drive for me but I need to go back!! Highly recommended.

I always passed this place on my way home and decided to see what it was about. I am glad to look it up, I did a pick up order and everything went well. I got the Chinese sweet and sour pork and a side of rice. I almost left when the front of house called me telling me I forgot the sauce. No other restaurant has ever done that. I also got sides of cabbage and cucumber kimchi. The service was quick and very friendly. This restaurant made me remember my time in Korea. I will definitely be back.
